Dhami government will fulfill the dream of doing post graduation from Britain, these students will get scholarship of 68 lakhs

Dehradun: There is good news for the students dreaming of studying in a country like Britain. The Uttarakhand government will give the students of state-run university campuses and government colleges an opportunity to study in good colleges in Britain. For this, the state government will give scholarships up to Rs 68 lakh.

In fact, under the Chief Minister Higher Education Chevening Scholarship Scheme, a student selected to study in a major university in Britain will be given a scholarship of about Rs 68 lakh. An MoU was signed between the Uttarakhand government and FCDO (Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office UK) for the scholarship scheme on 14 August 2024. After this, in the cabinet meeting held on 23 October, the cabinet has approved this MoU.

The Chevening Scholarship Scheme is a global scholarship scheme of the UK government. Under this, financial assistance is given to study in any university of the United Kingdom. Also, a maximum of five students will get a chance to do post graduation for one year in the desired course in any university of the United Kingdom. In such a situation, the Uttarakhand government has decided that five meritorious students of higher education will be given a chance to study in the United Kingdom i.e. Britain.

At present, this scheme is for the next three academic sessions, under which the meritorious students of the state will get its benefit in 2025-26, 2026-27 and 2027-28. Under the Chevening Scholarship Scheme, every student will be given a scholarship of about Rs 68 lakh. According to the MoU between the Uttarakhand government and the FCDO, the Uttarakhand government will spend Rs 22 lakh on each selected student, while the FCDO will spend about Rs 46 lakh. Giving more information about this, Secretary Chief Minister Shailesh Bagauli said that this arrangement has been made in the Chief Minister Higher Education Chevening Scholarship Scheme. Under this, five meritorious students of higher education studying in university campuses and government colleges under the state will get a chance to study in Britain. These five children will be selected on the basis of merit. Also, these students will be given the facility to study in a good university of the United Kingdom, the cost of which will be borne by the Uttarakhand government and the FCDO.
