Dehradun: Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan held a meeting with the concerned department and District Magistrates on Thursday in the Secretariat regarding organizing Environment Day on a large scale. The Chief Secretary said that this year the theme of Environment Day will focus on eliminating plastic pollution. He directed all District Magistrates to prepare an action plan for World Environment Day.
The Chief Secretary said that public awareness campaigns should be conducted across the state in accordance with the theme of Environment Day. Participation of the general public should be ensured in every activity. He said that all District Magistrates should include influential persons, doctors, lawyers, self-help groups etc. of their districts. He said that competitions should be organized by involving various social organizations, NGOs and self-help groups. Tree plantation programs should be organized on a large scale.
The Chief Secretary said that cleanliness campaigns should be organized across the state. Cleanliness campaigns should be organized for gram panchayats, cities, roads and rivers. He also asked all senior officers and district magistrates to focus on innovative efforts on Environment Day.
On this occasion, Principal Secretary R.K. Sudhanshu, L. Fanai, R. Meenakshi Sundaram, Secretary Dr. Pankaj Kumar Pandey, C. Ravishankar, Vinod Kumar Suman, Director Uttarakhand Pollution Control Board S.P. Subudhi and other senior officers as well as all the District Magistrates were present through video conferencing from the districts.
