Dehradun: The government is continuously taking a tough stand on corruption cases in Uttarakhand. On the instructions of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, immediate action is being taken against officers and employees. In this sequence, Sujit Kumar Vikas, Superintending Engineer of Uttarakhand Drinking Water Corporation Haldwani, has been suspended with immediate effect due to serious allegations.
What are the allegations?
In the order issued by Shailesh Bagoli, Chairman of Drinking Water Corporation, it has been told that Sujit Kumar Vikas is accused of taking money from a contractor and misusing the position. Complainant Sanjay Kumar alleged that in 2022, when Sujit Kumar was on the post of Superintending Engineer in Dehradun Division, he assured to get his firm Harsh Enterprises registered in the department and get work.
Transaction of Rs 10 lakh
According to the complaint, in lieu of this, Sanjay Kumar transferred Rs 10 lakh in five installments from his firm’s account to the account of a company called Kuchu-Puchu Enterprises in July 2022. The investigation revealed that the partner of this company is Ranju Kumari, wife of engineer Sujit Kumar Vikas herself.
Failed to give clarification
After the serious allegations, the department had given Sujit Kumar 15 days to present his clarification. But after not receiving any reply by the stipulated time, suspension action was taken.
Why was it considered a serious crime
The Chairman of the Drinking Water Corporation has clearly said that this act of the engineer is a direct violation of the Employee Conduct Rules. Remaining in the post could have adversely affected the departmental work. Therefore, he was suspended with immediate effect.
Where will he be attached now?
During the period of suspension, Engineer Sujit Kumar Vikas will be attached to the Office of General Manager (Training), Human Resource Cell, Uttarakhand Drinking Water Corporation, Roorkee.
Zero tolerance on corruption
This action has made it clear that the Uttarakhand government is working on a zero tolerance policy in cases of corruption. Chief Minister Dhami has repeatedly reiterated that the public’s money and the resources of the schemes will not be allowed to go into the wrong hands under any circumstances.
