Dhami government’s master stroke to stop tax evasion, GST number will be linked to Aadhaar

Dehradun: The state government is losing revenue by taking advantage of tax input credit by doing fake registration, due to which this system is being adopted. Uttarakhand will be the fourth state in the country to implement the system of authentication of Aadhaar number through biometrics in GST registration. Finance Minister Premchand Aggarwal will inaugurate this new system on July 31. The state government is losing revenue by the benefit of tax input credit (ITC) through fake registration. To stop tax evasion, the GST Council has ordered to authenticate Aadhaar number through biometrics.

This is how fraud happens in GST registration

At present, it is a system that it is mandatory for the trader or firm to provide Aadhaar number for GST registration, which is authenticated through OTP on mobile. But many times wrong Aadhaar number is used to commit fraud and the real Aadhaar holder is not even aware of the registration. In departmental action, the use of wrong documents for fake GST registration in cases of tax evasion has come to the fore. To prevent this, now biometric Aadhaar authentication will be implemented in registration. 22 GST Seva Kendras have been opened in the state, where offline verification of documents is also available.
