Dhami Government’s New Year Gift: 9 IPS Officers Promoted in Uttarakhand

Dehradun: The Uttarakhand government has given a New Year’s gift to several Indian Police Service officers. During the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary, the promotion of 9 IPS officers was approved. These officers had been waiting for the DPC for a long time, and the final decision has now been made.

A significant administrative update has emerged in the Uttarakhand Police Department. The state government has conducted a DPC for the promotion of several senior IPS officers, giving a promotion gift to several officers of the Indian Police Service in the state just before the New Year.

Significantly, as soon as the promotion orders are issued after the DPC, changes will be seen in the top structure of the police department. Abhinav Kumar has been promoted to the rank of Director General of Police (DGP). Abhinav Kumar is considered one of the senior and experienced IPS officers in the state. He has previously served in several important positions.

Nivedita Kukreti, P. Renuka, and Barinder Jeet Singh have been promoted to the rank of Inspector General of Police (IG). P. Renuka and Barinder Jeet Singh are currently on central deputation. Therefore, these two officers have been given proforma promotions. Proforma promotion means that they will receive the benefits of the higher rank while remaining in their current posting, while the actual charge will be taken up in the state after the completion of their central deputation. Nivedita Kukreti’s promotion is also considered significant for the department.

Several officers have also been promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG). This list includes Prahlad Meena, Preeti Priyadarshini, and Yashwant Chauhan. Preeti Priyadarshini has also been given a proforma promotion as she is currently on central deputation.

In addition, two IPS officers have been promoted to the rank of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP). IPS officers Tripti Bhatt and Ramchandra Rajguru have now been promoted to the rank of Senior Superintendent of Police. With this promotion, both officers are now authorized to wear two stars along with the Ashoka Pillar, which is considered a significant achievement in their cadre.

Overall, these promotions are expected to strengthen the administrative structure of the Uttarakhand Police. It is also anticipated that these long-awaited promotions will infuse new enthusiasm and energy among the officers in the department. All these officers were scheduled to receive their promotions in January 2026.  The government has thus given them a New Year’s gift by conducting the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) meeting on time.

Principal Secretary Meenakshi Sundaram in the Uttarakhand government will also now receive the salary scale of a Principal Secretary. Although she had already been promoted, she will now start receiving the benefits in terms of salary. She is receiving this benefit at the Principal Secretary level after completing 25 years of service.

The DPC meeting was held for two batches of IAS officers in the Uttarakhand government. This has cleared the way for the promotion of 10 IAS officers from the 2017 batch. After the DPC meeting, the order related to the promotion of all these officers will be issued soon. These officers have been promoted to the Junior Administrative Grade (JAG) with a grade pay of 7600. The names of these officers include Namami Bansal, Gaurav Kumar, Sandeep Tiwari, Ravneet Cheema, Vinod Giri Goswami, Prashant Kumar Arya, Ashish Kumar Bhatgai, Prakash Chandra, Deepti Singh, and Nidhi Yadav from the 2017 batch.

In addition, three more officers have been promoted. These officers from the 2022 batch have been given the Senior Time Scale with a grade pay of 6600.
