Dhami wishes World Environment Day, planted saplings at CM residence, honored people doing best work in the field of environment

Dehradun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami planted saplings under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign at the Chief Minister’s residence on the occasion of World Environment Day. On this occasion, he planted a Sita Ashoka sapling.

On this occasion, the Chief Minister also called upon the people of the state to participate in this holy work and serve nature by expressing respect to their mother. This campaign is dedicated to maternal respect and environmental protection, in which every person is being motivated to plant a tree in the name of his mother. Forest and Environment Minister Subodh Uniyal and Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan also planted saplings on this occasion.

People doing best work in the field of environment were honored

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Thursday honored the people doing best work in the field of environment on the occasion of World Environment Day at the Chief Servant Sadan located at the Chief Minister’s residence. Municipal Corporation Rudrapur was honored with the Sunder Lal Bahuguna Nature and Environment Conservation Award-2025 (Government Category). Deputy Municipal Commissioner Mrs. Shipra Joshi received this award from Municipal Corporation Rudrapur. Vijay Jaddhari and Pratap Singh Pokhriyal were honored with the Sunder Lal Bahuguna Nature and Environment Conservation Award-2025 (Non-Government Category). The Chief Minister also released the awareness poster of Uttarakhand Pollution Control Board and inaugurated the portal prepared by Eco Tourism Corporation. On this occasion, the Chief Minister administered the oath of plastic free Uttarakhand and provided cloth bags to school children.

The Chief Minister directed the Forest Department to plant at least one thousand fruit trees in every forest division of the state this year. So that wild animals can get adequate food. The Chief Minister urged the people of the state and travelers not to feed animals such things which are harmful for their health. He appealed to plant trees on birthdays, marriage anniversaries and other important occasions. Only with the resolve of such efforts, we will be able to promote environmental conservation. While wishing everyone a Happy World Environment Day, the Chief Minister said that Uttarakhand is a state full of natural beauty and biodiversity. Dense forests, sacred rivers, Himalayan glaciers are the geographical identity of our state.

The Chief Minister said that due to the efforts of the Prime Minister, India is moving ahead globally in the field of renewable energy production. Schemes like Solar Mission, Electric Mobility, Green Hydrogen Mission, Swachh Bharat Mission, Namami Gange Abhiyan and Plastic Free India Campaign are playing an important role in environmental conservation. He said that the state government celebrates the folk festival Harela on a large scale as a grand festival of nature conservation. ‘Spring and River Rejuvenation Authority (SARA) has been formed for the conservation of traditional water sources like Naula, Dhara and rain-based rivers of the state.

The Chief Minister said that in the last one year, the work of conservation and treatment of more than 6,500 water sources has been done successfully in the state. About 3.12 million cubic meters of rainwater has also been stored. It has been made mandatory to keep dustbins in vehicles coming to the state on various religious, tourism and other occasions including Chardham Yatra. He said that recently the National Games held in the state were organized on the theme of ‘Green Games’. In this event, all the medals and awards were made from e-waste material and sports kits were also prepared from recycled material. Forest Minister Subodh Uniyal said that Uttarakhand is sensitive towards the environment. As a result, today Uttarakhand is among the top five states in the country to absorb carbon. He said that we have given priority to public participation for environmental protection. He said that the tourists coming to Uttarakhand are being made aware about the environment. Today work is also being done on alternatives to plastic in the state. We have to take special care that plastic is used minimally. Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan said that along with development, environmental protection is also important, for which the concept of Gross Environment Product has been introduced. On the instructions of the Chief Minister, the practice of giving environmental awards has been started at the state level. He said that the work of environment and water conservation is everyone’s collective responsibility. On this occasion, Chief Forest Conservator Dr. Dhananjay Mohan, senior officials of the government, police and forest department were present.
