Dehradun: On the occasion of Diwali, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami purchased earthen lamps, utensils, and other traditional indigenous items from local shops on Chakrata Road in Dehradun. On this occasion, the Chief Minister also interacted with local shopkeepers, potters, and artisans and encouraged them to promote traditional arts.
During Diwali shopping, the Chief Minister purchased goods through digital payment (UPI) and urged the general public to purchase as many local products and indigenous goods as possible, thereby strengthening the resolve of small businesses, artisans, and a self-reliant India.
The Chief Minister said, “The festival of Diwali is a symbol of light and prosperity. On this auspicious occasion, we should encourage our country’s artisans and local entrepreneurs. Purchasing indigenous products not only keeps our traditions alive but also strengthens the resolve of ‘Vocal for Local.'”
During Diwali shopping, Chief Minister Dhami personally interacted with shopkeepers along Chakrata Road. Shopkeepers informed the Chief Minister that lower GST rates had made goods cheaper this year, resulting in higher sales than in previous years.
The Chief Minister expressed his delight at the significant increase in business during Diwali. He noted that this change was also a result of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to “adopt indigenous” and “vocal for local,” which has led to increased shopping from local vendors.
He appealed to the people of the state to light their homes with indigenous earthen lamps this Diwali and incorporate the fragrance of Indian tradition and culture into their celebrations. This initiative by the Chief Minister generated an atmosphere of joy and enthusiasm among local traders and shopkeepers.
