New Delhi: Dr. Atul Verma, an IPS officer from the 1991 batch, has been appointed as the new Director General of Police (DGP) for Himachal Pradesh. Originally from Jharkhand, Verma previously served as the Director General of the Crime Investigation Department (CID) in the state. Returning from a recent Central deputation, he has assumed responsibility for the crucial CID wing. The state government officially announced Verma’s appointment through a notification issued on Wednesday.
Sanjay Kundu, the former DGP of Himachal Pradesh, retired on Tuesday after dedicating 35 years to police service. In terms of seniority, IPS Atul Verma stands fourth, following IPS officers Tapan Kumar Deka (1988 batch), S R Ojha (1989 batch), and Shyam Bhagat Negi (1990 batch). Currently, Deka and Negi are on central deputation, while Ojha serves as the Director General of Prisons.
