Dehradun: Vice President CP Radhakrishnan was on a visit to Uttarakhand yesterday. During this visit, Vice President CP Radhakrishnan met with former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand and former Union Minister Major General (Retd.) BC Khanduri in Dehradun. The Vice President visited him at his residence in Dehradun, where he inquired about his health.
Vice President CP Radhakrishnan recalled the old days spent with Major General Khanduri as a Member of Parliament. He shared fond memories of working together in Parliament and recounted a special anecdote. He said that while he was an MP, he had requested the then Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Major General Khanduri, to convert some important state highways in Tamil Nadu into national highways, which Major General Khanduri readily accepted.
The Vice President expressed his gratitude to Major General Khanduri for his visionary decisions. He highlighted how the expansion of roads transformed the industrial landscape of Tamil Nadu. The Vice President appreciated Major General Khanduri’s support and foresight, saying that the road improvements made by him helped the Coimbatore region emerge as a major industrial hub.
It is worth noting that Major General (Retd.) BC Khanduri is a distinguished officer of the Indian Army. He served the country with utmost dedication and honor for over three decades. He was awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) for his exceptional services. After retiring from the army, he entered public life and played a significant role in guiding the development and administration of Uttarakhand. He served as the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand twice. Khanduri also held important responsibilities in the central government. Under the leadership of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, he first served as a Minister of State with independent charge and later as a Cabinet Minister in the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. During his tenure, Major General Khanduri played a key role in advancing the Golden Quadrilateral and the National Highway Development Programme (NHDP), which transformed India’s road infrastructure and connectivity.
