Emphasis should be placed on innovation, value addition, and marketing in the herbal and medicinal sector – Chief Minister

Dehradun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, at a meeting of the Herbal Advisory Committee held at the Secretariat, directed officials to systematically work in the herbal sector by forming clusters in villages. He said that special attention should be paid to the promotion and promotion of herbal and medicinal products available in the high Himalayan regions. The Chief Minister directed that a team of subject matter experts be sent from the state to study the best practices of two leading states in the herbal and aroma sector, so that these innovations can be implemented in Uttarakhand. He called for coordinated work on research, innovation, production, marketing, and branding to increase turnover in the herbal sector.

The Chief Minister said that the Himalayan region is a hub of natural herbal wealth. Given its immense potential in the state, developing the herbal economy is a priority for the government. Concrete efforts should be made to maximize the benefits of farmers’ products, increase local self-employment opportunities, and integrate women into the economy. He said that the cooperation of Pantnagar University should be sought to ensure the value addition, processing, and training of herbal products. The Chief Minister said that joint teams of the Agriculture and Forest Departments should be sent to areas where bears and other wild animals are causing damage to human life and crops. These teams should provide information to the public regarding safety measures and crop protection.

During the meeting, Dr. Abhishek Tripathi, Director of the Institute of Herbal Research and Development, provided detailed information about the research work being carried out by the Institute, conservation of rare medicinal species, production, and training programs. Agriculture Minister Ganesh Joshi, Vice-Chairman of the Herbal Advisory Committee Bhuvan Vikram Dabral, Balveer Ghuniyal, Principal Secretary R.K. Sudhanshu, Secretary S.N. Pandey, V. Shanmugam, Additional Secretary Vijay Kumar Jogdande, Vandana, Anuradha Pal, and related officials were present.
