Dehradun: Diwakar Bhatt, a former Uttarakhand Cabinet Minister and senior leader of the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal, has passed away. He breathed his last at his residence in Haridwar after a prolonged illness. He had been admitted to Dehradun’s Indresh Hospital for the past few days, where CM Dhami also visited him. Diwakar was considered one of the most aggressive and dedicated leaders during the statehood movement. His death has caused grief among his supporters. Uttarakhand Kranti Dal leader Shanti Prasad Bhatt stated that Diwakar Bhatt was one of the prominent leaders of the Uttarakhand statehood movement and had a distinct identity as the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal’s leading figure.
The news of his passing has sent shockwaves through the political and social spheres. He explained that Diwakar Bhatt, as the founder of the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal, struggled for a long time. He gained political recognition during the statehood movement. He was given the title of “Field Marshal” during the statehood movement. He lived his political life with this strength and spirit. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also expressed deep grief over the passing of senior state activist and former Cabinet Minister Diwakar Bhatt.
Honor him with the ‘Rajya Ratna Award’ and ‘Padma Bhushan’
Harish Rawat said that some people have such a fighting spirit that we always hope they will fight their illness and return to our fold. However, Diwakar Bhatt’s passing has created a significant gap in the politics of mass struggle. Therefore, in recognition of his struggle, the state government should award him the ‘Rajya Ratna Award’ and the Government of India should award him the ‘Padma Bhushan’.
Harish Rawat said that even though he was a critic of mine and served as the convener of the Sangharsh Samiti during the state movement, I was unable to maintain a long-term relationship with Diwakar Bhatt. I tried several times to bring him along, but despite this, his crucial role in the formation of the state will always be an inspiration to the forces of struggle.
At the juncture at which Uttarakhand stands today, Diwakar and Kashi Singh Airi are just some of the names we can ask if the state is truly on the right path. Diwakar has left us at a critical time. Harish Rawat has sent his condolences to his family, the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal, and all his fans.
