Green tax will be collected from vehicles coming to Uttarakhand from other states, starting in December.

Dehradun: Starting in December, a green tax will be collected from vehicles coming to Uttarakhand from other states. According to officials, this decision aims to promote pollution control, environmental protection, and cleanliness in the state. The tax collection will begin in December.

State Additional Transport Commissioner Sanat Kumar Singh stated that Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras installed at the state’s borders will record the registration numbers of incoming vehicles. He stated that 16 cameras are already installed in the border areas, and this number has now been increased to 37. Singh stated that the Transport Department has appointed a vendor company to collect the green tax.

He explained that the data collected by the cameras will be sent to the vendor through software, which will separate information related to Uttarakhand-registered vehicles, government-owned vehicles, and two-wheelers and send it to the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) database. From there, the vehicle owners’ wallet numbers will be searched, and the corresponding amount will be automatically deducted and deposited into the Transport Department’s account.

Different tax rates have been fixed for different vehicle categories – Rs 80 for small vehicles, Rs 250 for small goods vehicles, Rs 140 for buses and between Rs 120 and Rs 700 for trucks, depending on their weight.
