IAS R Alice Vaz Appointed Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi Ahead of Assembly Elections

Senior IAS officer R Alice Vaz (2005-batch AGMUT cadre IAS officer) has been appointed Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Delhi, with Assembly elections scheduled early next year. Officials announced that IAS Sachin Rana (2014-batch IAS officer) was also appointed as Additional Chief Electoral Officer on Thursday.

Hailing from Tamil Nadu, Vaz’s inspiring journey saw her transition from a nurse to an IAS officer. A nursing graduate from MGR Medical College in Chennai, she cleared the UPSC exams and began her civil service career in West Bengal, holding various administrative roles in different districts.

Her tenure included extended service in Puducherry before transferring to Delhi in 2020, where she served as Labour Director and Joint Secretary in the Delhi Jal Board, among other roles.

As Delhi prepares for the Assembly elections, the Election Commission is finalizing the voter list, with the updated version set to be published on January 6, 2025. The number of voters has increased by around five lakh in the last year, with over 13,000 polling booths spread across the city.

The Election Commission has initiated this bureaucratic reshuffle to ensure a smooth, impartial, and efficient electoral process.
