Dehradun: The folk festival Igas was celebrated with great simplicity in the Chief Minister’s residence last evening. On this occasion, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami prayed and prayed for peace and prosperity in the state by reciting Sunderkand. He also played Bhailo and Dhol Damau by worshipping Bhailo on Igas festival. The Chief Minister congratulated all the people of the state on Igas and said that we have to take our folk traditions and folk culture forward. He said that today the whole state is celebrating Igas with pomp and show. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also wished all the people of the state on Igas. The Prime Minister has a special attachment to Uttarakhand that he himself participated in the Igas festival. He said that the Prime Minister has always promoted the folk festivals of Uttarakhand and the culture here.
The Chief Minister said that folk culture and folk tradition are the identity of Devbhoomi. The festival of Igas is very special for us. In order to spread this folk festival to the masses, the tradition of public holiday has been started in the last few years. He said that in the recently held Pravasi Uttarakhandi Sammelan, he had also requested the Pravasi Uttarakhandi to go to their villages and celebrate the folk festival.
