Sameer Wankhede, an IRS officer of 2008 batch, is reportedly gearing up to contest the upcoming assembly elections in Maharashtra as a candidate from the Shiv Sena faction led by Eknath Shinde.
Mr Wankhede gained significant attention during his tenure at the Mumbai Customs and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) for conducting high-profile operations, including the infamous raid on a cruise ship that resulted in the arrest of Aryan Khan, son of Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan.
Although all charges against Khan were eventually dismissed and Wankhede was removed from the case amid allegations of extortion, his name remains prominent in discussions surrounding drug enforcement. Currently stationed in Chennai, Wankhede’s potential political ambitions mark a new chapter in his career.
