Nainital: The Collegium headed by Supreme Court Chief Justice DY Chandrachud has recommended Andhra Pradesh High Court Judge Narendra Ji to be made the Chief Justice of Uttarakhand High Court. The current Chief Justice of Uttarakhand High Court Ritu Bahri is retiring on October 10. The appointment of Justice Narendra Ji will be considered effective from October 10.
Justice Narendra Ji will be the new Chief Justice of Uttarakhand
The Supreme Court Collegium has made this recommendation on Tuesday 24 September. Justice Narendra Ji’s native High Court is Karnataka and he has been the senior-most judge of the Karnataka High Court. He was appointed to the Karnataka High Court in 2015 and was transferred to Andhra Pradesh on 10 October 2023. Before being promoted as a High Court judge, he practiced law in the Karnataka High Court. He is a very experienced judge in the judicial and administrative sides in the Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh High Courts.
Recommended by the Collegium of the Supreme Court
The Collegium has held that at present the Karnataka High Court has no representation among the Chief Justices of the High Courts. Justice Narendra Ji is suitable to be appointed as the Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court. Therefore, after the retirement of Justice Ritu Bahri, Chief Justice of Uttarakhand High Court on 10 October 2024, Justice Narendra Ji should be appointed as the Chief Justice of the High Court.

Justice Narendra Ji was born on 10 January 1964. He completed his graduation in Bachelor of Arts and LLB and enrolled as an advocate in the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu on 23 August 1989. Started practice in Madras High Court from 1989 to 1992. In the year 1993, he transferred his registration to the Karnataka State Bar Council.
