Dehradun: Uttarakhand’s renowned Hindi litterateur, late Shailesh Matiyani, was posthumously awarded the Uttarakhand Gaurav Samman Award-2025. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami presented the award to his son, Rakesh Matiyani, at a ceremony held at the Chief Minister’s residence on Monday. The award was given to Matiyani for his literary achievements, his invaluable contribution to the Hindi story world, and for strengthening the cultural heritage of Uttarakhand.
On this occasion, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that Shailesh Matiyani was not just a litterateur, but a skilled craftsman of emotions. His contribution to the modern Hindi story movement is unforgettable. The impressive style with which he presented the suffering, struggle, and life-truths of the common people places him among the best writers of Indian literature.
Chief Minister Dhami stated that the Uttarakhand government always honors the contributions of the state’s great talents, who have inspired generations through their writing, work, and creativity. Late Shailesh Matiyani’s numerous works, including Borivali to Boribandar, Muktibha, Adhangini, and Cheel, remain as relevant today and hold an important place in Hindi literature.
The Chief Minister stated that presenting this posthumous honor to the late Matiyani’s family is a matter of pride for the state government. Honoring his son, the Chief Minister said that honoring literary figures enriches both society and the state. Late Shailesh Matiyani’s son expressed his gratitude to the Uttarakhand government and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, saying that this honor is a proud moment for literature lovers and Matiyani’s admirers across the state.
Shailesh Matiyani was a renowned Hindi writer, poet, and essayist from Uttarakhand. Born on October 14, 1931, in Badechhina village, Almora district, Uttarakhand, Shailesh Matiyani’s real name was Ramesh Chandra Singh Matiyani. He faced numerous struggles from childhood. As a result, the Uttarakhand government annually honors outstanding teachers with the Shailesh Matiyani State Educational Award. Born in Almora, Shailesh Matiyani not only shaped Hindi literature amidst his struggles, but also exposed the realities of society through his writings.
