Bhopal: Union govt accepted MP govt’s requested seeking extension of the incumbent chief secretary’s tenure and gave an extension of six months to CS Veera Rana.
Rana was set to retire on March 31 but after the extension, she would now retire on Sept 30, 2024. The orders in this regard were issued by the department of personnel and training.
It was the second time in MP when the CS has got back to back extensions. Iqbal Singh Bains, Rana’s predecessor, had got two six-month extensions and retired on Nov 30 last year after which, Veera Rana was given the charge by the election commission in the middle of the assembly polls. On Jan 17 Veera Rana was made chief secretary of the state after holding the post as an additional charge since Nov 30 last year.
Govt sought the extension of Rana’s tenure as it did not want the election commission to decide upon the next CS after her retirement on March 31, after imposition of model code for Lok Sabha polls.
Veera Rana, a 1988 batch IAS officer, is the second woman chief secretary of MP after the late Nirmala Buch.
Bains became first chief secretary of the state to get a one-year extension. Earlier, R Parshuram and BP Singh had got six-month extensions each as chief secretaries.
