Mumbai: Puja Khedkar, a probationary IAS officer from the 2022 batch, has been at the center of a controversy in Pune, leading to her abrupt transfer to Washim district in central Maharashtra. She was posted as an assistant collector in Pune.
She secured an All India Rank of 821 under the Physical Disability (PWD-5) category in the UPSC exams.
The transfer came amidst allegations of Khedkar making VIP demands, including the use of her private Audi car fitted with a red-blue beacon light and VIP number plate, along with a ‘Maharashtra government’ board affixed to the vehicle.
The government order, which is signed by S M Mahadik, assistant secretary, government of Maharashtra stated the transfer was done for administrative reasons. Sources said that the probation officer is likely to face an enquiry regarding the various complaints received against her.
According to reports, Khedkar had also sought separate accommodation, a cabin, car, residential quarters, and a peon even before officially joining her duties on June 3. However, authorities informed her that such privileges were not applicable during her probationary period, and that accommodation would be provided accordingly.
The Pune collector, Suhas Diwase, an IAS officer of 2009 batch, submitted a report to the General Administration Department (GAD), expressing concerns over Khedkar’s demands and behavior. He highlighted an incident where she allegedly removed the nameplate of a senior official at the Pune collector’s office when using his ante-chamber as her office.
In response to these issues, Khedkar has been transferred to Washim to complete the remaining term of her training. She will serve there as a “supernumerary assistant collector” until July 30, 2025, as outlined in an official letter.
