Major administrative reshuffle expected in Uttarakhand in 2026; this IAS officer associated with the CM’s office gets a responsibility at the Centre

Dehradun: With the start of the new year, signs of major changes in the bureaucracy have begun to emerge in Uttarakhand. Information has been received about the biggest changes at the state government level. This is because, on the one hand, a large number of officers have recently been promoted in the state, after which they are to be given new responsibilities according to their rank, and on the other hand, IAS officer Shailesh Bagoli, considered close to the Chief Minister’s office, has also been given a posting on central deputation. Following this, there are whispers of changes in the most important departments like Home and Personnel.

Preparation for major administrative changes in 2026: With the beginning of the new year, clear signs of major administrative changes in the Uttarakhand government have started to appear. On the one hand, several IAS officers have recently received promotions, and the government is deliberating on assigning them new responsibilities, while on the other hand, due to officers going on central deputation, several important posts in the state government are becoming vacant. In such a situation, there is a strong possibility of a major reshuffle in the administrative system of Uttarakhand in January 2026.

IAS officer associated with the Chief Minister’s office gets responsibility at the Centre: The most important name in these changes is that of senior IAS officer Shailesh Bagoli, who is considered very close to the Chief Minister’s office. Shailesh Bagoli, a senior IAS officer of the 2002 batch of the Uttarakhand cadre, has been appointed as Joint Secretary in the Department of Revenue by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) of the Central Government. This appointment has been made for the next five years or until further orders.

Shailesh Bagoli is currently handling these responsibilities: Currently, Shailesh Bagoli is handling the responsibilities of very sensitive and important departments like Home and Personnel in Uttarakhand. In addition, Shailesh Bagoli is also looking after the responsibility of Secretary to the Chief Minister. Therefore, his going on central deputation is considered a sign of major changes in these important departments of the state government.

New officers needed for Shailesh Bagoli’s departments: Home and Personnel are departments that are directly related to law and order, administrative control, and human resource management. Therefore, the responsibility for these departments is usually entrusted to senior and trustworthy officers. If Shailesh Bagoli moves to the central government, the government will have to make an important decision regarding the appointment of new officers for these two departments.

Senior IAS officer Ashish Joshi gets a major responsibility in the Central Education Ministry: Meanwhile, another senior IAS officer from the Uttarakhand cadre, Ashish Joshi, is also in the news. Although he is already on central deputation, he has now been given a new responsibility in the Ministry of Education in the central government. This makes it clear that officers from the Uttarakhand cadre are also playing important roles in the central government.

Discussion of some more major changes at the government level: It is noteworthy that several officers at the secretary level in the state government have recently been promoted. After this, it is believed that the responsibility of several important departments at the secretary level may now be entrusted to the newly promoted officers. In addition, there is also talk of some more major changes at the government level.

Possibility of administrative reshuffle in the districts as well: Not only the state government but also the districts are likely to see administrative reshuffles. Preparations have already been made regarding the transfer of District Magistrates in some districts. In such a scenario, significant changes can be expected in the Uttarakhand government and administrative structure in January 2026.
