Major reshuffle of IAS likely; EC wants officers posted for more than three years shifted

Mumbai: The Maharashtra government is likely to announce a major reshuffle of IAS officers in the state including Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) commissioner I S Chahal (IAS: 1989: MH) and Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) commissioner Vikram Kumar (IAS: 2004: MH) soon. Others officers up for transfers are additional municipal commissioners (AMC) P Velarasu (IAS: 2002: MH) and Ashwini Bhide (IAS: 1995: MH), as they have completed over three years in their positions.

State chief electoral officer Shrikant Deshpande (IAS: 1991: MH) received a letter from the election commission on February 22, 2024 citing three-year transfer policy, which has been forwarded to the general administration of state government for further action.

The municipal commissioner of Akola, Kavita Dwivedi (IAS: 2011: MH) is also due for transfer. The state has already begun the hunt for a candidate to fill BMC’s top post. It is believed, additional chief secretary Bhushan Gagrani (IAS: 1990: MH) who heads the CM secretariat is one of the contenders for the post.
