New Delhi: On Monday, a big announcement was made about Mithun Chakraborty, famous as legendary actor and disco dancer. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav gave the good news of honoring the actor with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. This news has given a big opportunity for celebration to the fans of the actor in the country and abroad. There is an atmosphere of happiness in the Chakraborty family.

Mithun became emotional

Mithun has expressed happiness on receiving the biggest honor of Indian cinema. He has no words to say. He looked emotional during a conversation with ANI. Mithun said- To be honest, I do not have any language. Neither can I laugh, nor can I cry with happiness. What a big thing it is. I could not even imagine that a boy from where I have come in Kolkata, I have come here fighting from the footpath, will get such a big honor. I am speechless. All I can say is that I dedicate this award to my family and fans.

PM Modi congratulated

The Prime Minister of the country Narendra Modi has congratulated actor Mithun Chakraborty on receiving the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. He wrote on X- I am happy that Mr. Mithun Chakraborty has been awarded the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his unique contribution to Indian cinema. He is a cultural icon. He has been appreciated for generations for his strong performance. Congratulations and best wishes to him.

Son expressed happiness

Fans across the country are now waiting for the moment when the actor will be honored with such a big honor. Mithun will be given this award on 8 October 2024 during the 70th National Film Awards ceremony. Son Namashi has also reacted to this award received by his father. In a conversation with Aaj Tak, Namashi said- I am feeling very proud and honored. My father is a self-made superstar and a great citizen. His life journey has been inspiring for many. We are all very happy with this honor he received.

What is the Dada Saheb Phalke Award?

The Dada Saheb Phalke Award is the biggest honour in the cinema world in India. This award is also given every year during the National Film Awards ceremony. Mithun Chakraborty will be the 54th winner of the Dada Saheb Phalke Award. This award was started in 1969 in honour of the father of Indian cinema, Dada Saheb Phalke. Phalke directed India’s first feature film ‘Raja Harishchandra’ in 1913. Till now 53 people including Prithviraj Kapoor, Vinod Khanna, Raj Kapoor, Shashi Kapoor, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, BR Chopra and Yash Chopra have been honoured with this honour.

Received National Award for the very first film

Mithun’s journey in the film industry has been inspirational. He has entertained fans by giving many superhit movies in his career. Born in Kolkata, Mithun is an actor, producer and politician by profession. The actor has appeared in more than 350 films. These include Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Bhojpuri, Telugu, Kannada, Punjabi movies. Mithun made his acting debut in the year 1977 with the film ‘Mrigayaa’. He received the National Award for Best Actor for his very first film.

Mithun’s brilliant career

At the beginning of his career, he was seen in small roles. Mithun worked in less screen space in the movies ‘Do Anjaane’, ‘Phool Khile Hain Gulshan Gulshan’. Then the low budget film ‘Suraksha’ released in 1979 helped him gain fame. The movie ‘Prem Vivah’ also played an important role in boosting his career. Mithun has worked in hit movies like ‘Humse Badhkar Kaun’, ‘Shaandaar’, ‘Trinetra’, ‘Agneepath’, ‘Humse Hai Zamana’, ‘Tahder Katha’, ‘Swami Vivekananda’, ‘Woh Jo Haseena’, ‘Ailan’, ‘Jor Laga Ke…Haiya’, ‘Chal Chalen’, ‘Disco Dancer’, ‘Taxi Chor’, ‘The Kashmir Files’.

Mithun made his debut in Bengali cinema in 1978 with the movie Nadi Theke Sagare. In 2008, Mithun appeared in the Bhojpuri film ‘Bhole Shankar’. It is said that this is the biggest Bhojpuri film till date. After films, Mithun has also made his mark on TV. The actor has judged many dance shows, such as ‘Dance India Dance’, ‘Hunarbaaz-Desh Ki Shaan’. Even at the age of 74, Mithun is active in films. His last Hindi film was ‘The Kashmir Files’.

Mithun has received the National Award thrice (films Mrigayaa, Tahader Katha, Swami Vivekananda) for his excellent performance in his career. The actor is also honored with Padma Bhushan. In the year 1989, 19 of his films were released as a lead actor. His name is recorded in the Limca Book of Records. This record of the actor has not been broken in Bollywood till date.
