Nainital: In the alleged kidnapping case of panchayat members on the day of election for the post of District Panchayat President in Nainital district of Uttarakhand, the police have identified the accused and decided to take action under the Gangster Act. Nainital SSP Prahlad Narayan Meena said that during the Nainital District Panchayat President election, some people had come, who had disturbed the peace of Nainital city. Also, they had obstructed government work. Some videos of that incident have also gone viral. In the viral video, some people are seen creating a ruckus. The police is first identifying such people. Along with this, the people who have been identified so far. Along with this, the data of which persons these people are associated with is also being extracted.
Criminal records of some people have been extracted. Gangster action is also being taken against such people, so that in future this action can be presented as an example. If any person tries to disturb the peace of Nainital city or create a ruckus here, the police will deal with him strictly. Special teams have been set up to identify the accused and video footage is being scrutinized.

Action taken against these police officers: Apart from this, more than half a dozen police officers and personnel have been reprimanded. ASI Uday Singh Rana has been suspended for negligence on the eve of the election. CO Pramod Sah has been transferred to IRB Dehradun and Tallital SO Ramesh Singh Bohra has been transferred to Almora. Apart from this, constable Amit Chauhan, who remained a mute spectator during the ruckus, has also been suspended. A constable, a woman constable and a fireman on duty on the District Panchayat Road have been put on the line, while correspondence has been made to the headquarters for action against the PAC personnel deployed on the spot. The SSP said that six cases have been registered in Tallital police station so far.
Know the whole matter: On 14 August 2025, elections were held for the post of District Panchayat President and Vice President in Nainital city. There was a lot of uproar in the city in the middle of the elections. Five district panchayat members disappeared near the polling station, due to which five members could not cast their votes. Congress and BJP had accused each other of kidnapping the five district panchayat members. In this case, a complaint was also given to the police by both the parties. The police had registered several cases on the complaint of both the parties. At the same time, the Uttarakhand High Court also took cognizance of this matter. However, a new turn came in this entire incident when the video of the five missing district panchayat members surfaced and they denied the kidnapping. The five missing district panchayat members had said that they had gone with their own people, no one had kidnapped them.
