Hyderabad : Dr Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar (Retd IAS: 1982: AP) took over as the new Director General of Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) on August 19, 2024. The ASCI is an institution of excellence of national importance which was established in 1956. It is the first and foremost institution of its kind in the country.
Dr Ramesh Kumar had a distinguished career as a civil servant spanning 34 years, during which he held many senior positions with distinction. Among other roles, he served the renowned Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanams (TTD) as Joint Executive Officer and later as Executive Officer. He also served as Commissioner of Commercial Taxes, Principal Secretary of the Agriculture & Cooperation, Marketing, and Housing Departments, and was Secretary of Finance from 2006 to 2009.
Dr Ramesh Kumar was Principal Secretary and later Special Chief Secretary to Governor of Andhra Pradesh & Telangana from 2009 to 2016, during a crucial period when the State of Andhra Pradesh was bifurcated. Post retirement, he served as the State Election Commissioner of the newly formed state of Andhra Pradesh from 2016 to 2021. Dr Ramesh Kumar holds a Post Graduate degree in Economics, a Ph.D in Economics, and a degree in Law. He was a member of Court of Governors of ASCI.
