NITI Aayog Kickstarts Symposium on ‘Green Transition in States’

A symposium on the “Green Transition in States” was held on 11th November 2024 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, organized by NITI Aayog and ISEG Foundation. Key dignitaries included Mr. Suman Bery (Vice Chairperson, NITI Aayog), Mr. B. V. R. Subrahmanyam (CEO, NITI Aayog), Mr. R P Gupta (CMD, SECI), Ms. Leena Nandan (Secretary, MoEFCC), Mr. Pankaj Agarwal (Secretary, Ministry of Power), Mr. Pankaj Jain (Secretary, MoPNG), and Mr. Prashant Kumar Singh (Secretary, MNRE).

NITI Aayog, in collaboration with the Ministry of Power and the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, launched the ASSET platform (Accelerating Sustainable Solutions for Energy Transition) to support states in their green transition. The platform will help formulate energy transition blueprints, develop bankable projects, and promote innovations in critical sectors like green hydrogen, energy efficiency, and offshore wind.

The role of states is vital in achieving India’s aspirations for a Net-zero future by 2070, with a focus on preparing energy transition plans, developing investible projects, and fostering technological innovation.

Speakers at the event highlighted challenges and solutions, including the financial hurdles in renewable energy, the need for cooperative federalism, SECI’s role in renewable energy expansion, and the importance of alternative fuels. The symposium also featured Best Practices Sessions with presentations from states, private firms, and think tanks.
