“One Jail, One Product” will be developed in every prison in the state, CM Dhami instructed officials at the Jail Development Board meeting

Dehradun: The Uttarakhand government launched the “One District, One Product” scheme to promote local products, ensuring recognition and a wider market for them. In this regard, the Uttarakhand government has decided to develop “One Jail, One Product” in all prisons across the state. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami held a review meeting of the Jail Development Board at the Secretariat on Thursday. During the meeting, CM Dhami stated that the products produced in the districts should be used in government departments.

During the meeting, the CM directed the development of “One Jail, One Product” in prisons and the organization of regular programs for skill development for inmates. He also called for training in various trades in prisons through ITIs. He also directed the state to develop its own model for prison development. The Chief Minister directed that products manufactured in prisons be used in government offices. He also instructed officials to periodically review the food arrangements in prisons.

The meeting decided to install laundry machines in Central Jail Sitarganj, District Jails Almora, Pauri, Tehri, Sub-Jails Haldwani, and Roorkee. The installation of laundry machines in Dehradun and Haridwar District Jails had yielded positive results. The Chief Minister directed that adequate medical facilities be ensured in prisons. The meeting also agreed to establish a Kachi Ghani mustard oil plant in Sitarganj, the state’s open jail. Mushroom farming was also approved in Sitarganj and Haridwar jails.

Officials at the meeting reported that the establishment of bakery units in District Jails Haridwar, Almora, Central Jail Sitarganj, and Sub-Jail Haldwani had generated an income of approximately ₹12 lakh. The establishment of a cowshed in the Sitarganj open jail has also generated an income of ₹10 lakh.
