Police Commissioner and Municipal Commissioner shunted out after Rajkot incident!

Gandhinagar (28.05.2024): Within hours of Gujarat High Court’s strong remarks at the state and local authorities, the Gujarat government swung into action and shunted out the municipal commissioner Anand Babulal Patel (IAS: 2010: GJ) and Police Commissioner Raju Bhargava (IPS: 1995: GJ).

Both these officers besides some other officers posted in the city have been kept on waiting for further orders while D P Desai has been sent as the new municipal commissioner and Brajesh Kumar Jha (IPS: 1999: GJ) has been made the Police Commissioner. Moreover, the state government has also removed Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic and Crime) Vidhi Chaudhary (IPS: 2009: GJ) and suspended seven lower rank officials.

Rajkot collector is also likely to be shunted out after poll results. Since he is the Returning Officer of Rajkot Lok Sabha seat, he has been spared but will go after June 6, 2024. The officers axed after the incident include:

D P Desai (IAS: 2008: GJ), Chief Executive Officer, Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA), Ahmedabad with additional charge of the post of Chief Executive Officer, Gandhinagar Urban Development Authority (GUDA), Gandhinagar, has been transferred and his services are continued to be placed at the disposal of Urban Development & Urban Housing Department for appointment as Municipal Commissioner, Rajkot Municipal Corporation, Rajkot.

Anand Babulal Patel (IAS: 2010: GJ), Municipal Commissioner, Rajkot Municipal Corporation, Rajkot has been transferred and his services are placed at the disposal of General Administration Department for further orders.

Bhavya Verma (IAS: 2016: GJ), Mission Director, Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), Gandhinagar would hold additional charge of the posts of  Chief Executive Officer, Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA), Ahmedabad.
