Dehradun: Through the new yoga policy, Uttarakhand will be developed as the global capital of yoga and wellness. Yoga tourism will be promoted in the state. International yoga and spiritual centers will be established. Rules and guidelines will be prepared for yoga institutes to ensure their quality.
The cabinet approved the Uttarakhand Yoga Policy 2025 on Wednesday. This new policy will create 13 thousand new jobs. 2500 yoga teachers will be certified by the Yoga Certification Board. More than 10 thousand yoga instructors will get employment in home stays, hotels. Yoga and meditation centers will be promoted in the state. Subsidy of up to 20 lakhs will be given in the hills and 10 lakhs in the plains.

Yoga will be brought to the masses through awareness programmes. Yoga will be included in the curriculum of schools and colleges. Capacity building in the field of yoga will be done by collaborating with national and international institutions. Establishment of world-class yoga centres will be encouraged.
Newly established and expanding yoga centres will get a subsidy of 50% of the project cost or a maximum of Rs 20 lakh in the hills. In the plains, a subsidy of 25% or a maximum of Rs 10 lakh will be given. The total annual subsidy limit will be Rs 5 crore.
To encourage research in the field of yoga, meditation and naturopathy, subsidy of up to Rs 10 lakh per project will be given. This facility will be for universities, research institutes, health organisations, AYUSH institutions, NGOs. A total amount of Rs 1 crore has been fixed for research. Successful implementation of the policy will cost Rs 35 crore in five years. In this, Rs 25 crore will be given to yoga centres, Rs 1 crore to research and Rs 1.81 crore to teacher certification. Rs 7.5 crore will be spent to assist in conducting yoga sessions in existing institutions. Directorate of Yoga and Naturopathy will be established. Which will monitor various activities including operation, regulation, grant distribution of the entire policy.
The Directorate will include Director, Joint Director, Deputy Director, Yoga Expert, Registrar and other staff. The Directorate will be responsible for ensuring the quality of yoga centers, registering yoga institutes. Getting them recognized under the Yoga Certification Board. Along with creating a rating system for yoga centers, national and international cooperation will be established through MoU. Certifications of Yoga Certification Board will be given priority to promote a single certification system.
Yoga instructors who pass the board examinations will be reimbursed the examination fee every year. Every year 500 such instructors will be given the benefit of the scheme, who will pass various levels of certification courses from Yoga Protocol Instructor to Yoga Therapist. Along with this, a high level state committee will be formed.
Five new yoga hubs will be built here
Five new yoga hubs will be established in Uttarakhand by 2030. Jageshwar, Mukteshwar, Vyas Valley, Tehri Lake and Kolidhek Lake will be developed as yoga hubs. Special priority will be given to yoga centers developed in these areas. By March 2026, yoga services will be made available in all AYUSH health and wellness centers of the state. Community based mindfulness programs will start. Programs will be prepared keeping in mind the needs of different age groups, genders and classes. Yoga instructors will be given Rs 250 per session for setting up yoga centers in already running homestays, resorts, hotels, schools, colleges.
100% registration will have to be done
100% registration will be ensured to bring yoga institutions under the purview of rules and regulations. A special online yoga platform will be started. Promotional campaign will be intensified to promote yoga tourism. International yoga conferences will be organized. Partnerships will be developed with 15 to 20 national, international institutions by March 2028. Startups related to yoga will be encouraged. Yoga courses will be developed in schools. An online platform will be created from where people will be able to take advantage of live yoga sessions while connecting with the natural places of Uttarakhand.
