Provisions of Uttarakhand UCC challenged in High Court, Kapil Sibal appeared through video conferencing

Nainital: Several petitions challenging the UCC (Uniform Civil Code) implemented in Uttarakhand on January 27 have been filed in the Nainital High Court. The Nainital High Court has decided to hear all these petitions together after 6 weeks by associating them with the petitions filed two days ago.

On Friday, Uttarakhand Jamaat-e-Ulema Hind President Mohd Muqeem resident of Haldwani, Secretary Tanzeem (Haridwar), members Shoaib Ahmed (Mallital Nainital), Mohd Shah Nazar (Dehradun) and Abdul Sattar (Dehradun) have challenged several provisions of the UCC.

Similarly, another writ has been filed by Naeem Ahmed of Dehradun, Hijab Ahmed of Bijnor, Javed Akhtar and Aqib Qureshi of Dehradun. Senior Supreme Court advocate Kapil Sibal appeared through video conferencing in the division bench headed by Chief Justice G Narendra on Friday for the hearing of these petitions. But the court fixed the date of hearing of these petitions as April 1.

Let us tell you that some provisions of UCC have been challenged by advocate Aarushi Gupta through a PIL. While two days ago, Bhimtal resident Suresh Singh Negi also challenged the provisions of live-in relationship in UCC through a PIL. Apart from this, Elmasuddin and others of Dehradun have challenged UCC by filing a writ petition. In these petitions, the High Court has issued a notice to the government and sought a reply in 6 weeks. Now all the petitions related to UCC will be heard on April 1.
