Punjab Govt Reinstates IPS P S Umranangal Into Service After A Five-Year Suspension

The government of Punjab, as per an order by the Secretary of Home Affairs and Justice, Mr. Gurkirat Kirpal Singh (2001 batch IAS officer), mandated the erstwhile suspended IPS officer Paramraj Singh Umranangal to assume charge as the Inspector General of Police (IGP), police and rules. Officer Umranangal remained suspended for the past five years for his alleged involvement in police firing during protests over the desecration of the Guru Granth Sahib in 2015.

Officer Umranangal, a 1995-batch IPS officer, was posted in the rank of Inspector General of Police (IGP) before getting suspended in 2019 and getting named an accused in multiple police firing cases linked to desecration incidents in Faridkot in 2015, which led to protests resulting in two deaths and several injuries.
