Dehradun: The notification for municipal elections in Uttarakhand is likely to be issued by the end of December. After the approval of the OBC reservation ordinance for municipal bodies on December 10, the government has expedited the process. In this sequence, the Uttarakhand government has issued the Uttarakhand Municipality/Nagar Panchayat (Reservation and Allotment of Places and Posts) Rules, 2024 and Uttarakhand Municipal Corporation (Reservation and Allotment of Places and Posts) Rules, 2024 late on Thursday night. Deputy Secretary Pradeep Kumar Shukla has issued a letter in this regard.
The government has issued the rules for reservation of urban bodies and sent it to the Urban Development Directorate. According to the letter sent by Deputy Secretary Pradeep Kumar Shukla to the Urban Development Department, a proposal should be prepared to fix the reservation of places and posts in Nagar Panchayats/Municipalities/Municipal Corporations in relation to the Local Municipal Body General Election-2024 and made available to the government as soon as possible, so that further action can be taken.
Reservation will be done as per the Uttarakhand Municipality/Nagar Panchayat (Reservation and Allotment of Places and Posts) Rules, 2024 and Uttarakhand Municipal Corporation (Reservation and Allotment of Places and Posts) Rules, 2024 issued by the Uttarakhand Government. After the reservation list is prepared, objections will be sought from the public. In such a situation, the objections received on the reservation decided for the municipal bodies will be resolved. After the final reservation list is prepared, the reservation will be sent to the State Election Commission. After which the State Election Commission will move forward towards conducting the elections.
