Dehradun: The Uttarakhand government is taking several steps to improve health facilities and overcome the shortage of specialist doctors in government hospitals. In this sequence, the government had recently decided that the retirement age limit of specialist doctors in government hospitals was increased from 60 to 65. The order for which has also been issued today.
After this order, now specialist doctors will be able to provide their services till the age of 65 years. Earlier this age limit was 60 years. The order regarding increasing the retirement age of specialist doctors has been issued by Health Secretary Dr. R Rajesh Kumar.
At the same time, Health Secretary Dr. R Rajesh Kumar said that 550 specialist doctors of the state will benefit from the increase in the age limit. This decision of the state government will not only overcome the shortage of specialist doctors in the state, but the benefit of specialist doctors will also be available in remote rural areas.
The secretary said that the state government is committed to providing better health services to the public. Health services are being improved rapidly in the state. In such a situation, the government has decided to give five years of service extension to specialist doctors. Service benefits will be available only to those specialist doctors who will provide their services to patients in hospitals.
Health Secretary Dr. R Rajesh Kumar said that after completing the age of 60 years, no specialist doctor will be given charge of administrative post and financial responsibilities. Also, they will be deployed as chief consultants on the available vacant posts of their discipline under the framework.
He said that such medical officers will not be given further promotion. The doctor will be allowed salary increment and other service benefits during service and on retirement as per rules like government personnel.
