THDCIL-UJVNL Joint Venture Strikes Rs 140 Crore Deal for Waste-to-Green Energy Plant

RK Vishnoi, the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of THDC, emphasized that the establishment of this plant is crucial for addressing environmental concerns associated with solid waste while promoting cleaner surroundings in line with the Swachh Bharat vision. He highlighted that this project, a significant milestone for the holy city of Haridwar, exemplifies India’s commitment to self-reliance by employing advanced indigenous technology for solid waste management.

Nagar Nigam Haridwar has graciously provided approximately 10 acres of land at Sarai for the construction of the plant. The MoU was signed by Varun Chaudhary, IAS, Municipal Commissioner of Haridwar, and Sandeep Kumar, CEO of TUECO Ltd., in the presence of officials from both TUECO and Nagar Nigam Haridwar.

The plant’s operations will involve processing 400 tonnes of municipal solid waste daily, directly feeding it into the reactor to produce 140 tonnes of torrefied charcoal. This innovative process results in a substance similar to natural coal, which can seamlessly blend with conventional fuels in thermal power plants for electricity generation. Notably, this process is environmentally friendly, characterized by lower operating temperatures compared to alternative technologies, thereby reducing toxic emissions.
