The government will recover the damages from those who damage government or private properties, the assembly approved the bill

Gairsain: After the cabinet, the government has got the approval of the assembly that if any citizen damages the government property or any private property, its compensation or recovery will be made from the same person. The Uttarakhand government has got the Public Private Property Damage Recovery Act 2024 passed by the House by placing it on the table of the Legislative Assembly and now it will be sent to the Governor for approval. After that it will take the form of law.

Before Uttarakhand, there are other BJP-ruled states to do this, this law from UP was an example. A few months ago, in the Banbhulpura violence in Haldwani, the miscreants set fire to the police station, municipal corporation vehicles and vehicles of people associated with the media. According to an estimate, about ten crore rupees worth of government and private property was lost in this violence.

Since then, the Dhami government of Uttarakhand was talking about bringing this law, the proposal to this effect was also passed by the Dhami cabinet and it was decided to give legal form to this bill in the monsoon session. Under this Act, the said loss will be compensated from the person who damages the property of the central or state government by strike, riot, rebellion or mass mob, along with this, the government has also made a provision for recovery from the person who damages the property of private people in this Act.

In this Act, the person who damages the property of religious places, public places, Dharamshala, Waqf Board will also have to compensate for the loss. The matter of quick implementation of this law has also been recorded in the House. Rudrapur MLA Shiv Arora says that it was necessary to make this law in the interest of the state and the public, because properties are often targeted by the mob, now this can be stopped. Gadarpur MLA Arvind Pandey says that this law is necessary because whenever a crowd gathers and when it becomes aggressive, it becomes unruly, now the person who damages property by violence will have to think ten times whether he should vandalize or commit arson or not.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that this law will prove effective in stopping anarchy and violence in the state. Now any miscreant who damages property, whether it is government or private, its price will be recovered from the same miscreant. For this, the responsibility of the police administration is also going to be fixed that it should also collect sufficient evidence of such cases. However, after the passage of this bill, the government will send it to the Governor for approval, after which this bill will take the form of a legal act.
