The hassle of visiting the registrar’s office is over! Land registration will now be possible from home, effective April 2026

Dehradun: The Chief Secretary held a review meeting on Tuesday regarding the virtual registration of property and land purchases and sales in Uttarakhand. During the meeting, the Chief Secretary reviewed the progress of the virtual registration process with the concerned officials and directed that the process be implemented within the stipulated timeline. Virtual registration of property purchases and sales across the state will not only bring transparency to the system but also save time and eliminate disputes related to property purchases and sales.

Chief Secretary’s Instructions: The Chief Secretary stated that coordination should be established with all relevant stakeholders to complete the virtual registration of land purchases and sales. The Chief Secretary directed that provisions be made in the relevant application or portal to ensure that all documents related to land purchases and sales are shared between stakeholders, departments, bodies, and agencies, automatically and instantly through a paperless process.

Transparency in Land Purchases and Sales: He stated that the completion of this project will bring transparency to land purchases and sales, and ensure consistent and accurate land records are shared among various departments, bodies, agencies, and stakeholders. Additionally, this will reduce disputes related to the purchase and sale of land.

During the meeting, officials stated that the relevant application has been prepared and modifications will be made to the application based on the points discussed during the meeting. Following the modifications, the tendering process for its infrastructure will begin.

Three Options in the Application and Portal: It was also stated that three options will be available in this application and portal regarding the purchase and sale of land.

  • Under the first option, one must physically appear at the registrar’s office for registration with documents.
  • Under the second option, registration can be done without any documents (paperless) at the registration office.
  • Under the third option, land registration will be possible through virtual (online) means without any mediator. Efforts will be made to implement this project across the state by April 1, 2026.
