Dehradun: The meeting of the governing body of Uttarakhand Pashudhan Vikas Parishad was held in the Secretariat on Monday under the chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan. During the meeting, the Additional Chief Secretary took detailed information on the annual progress of the board. He asked the officials to encourage small farmers as well as big farmers in this field so that the business approach of the farmers can be developed and the objectives of the scheme can be met.
The Additional Chief Secretary said that a holistic approach needs to be adopted to bring quantitative and qualitative genetic improvement in cow and buffalo breed animals. He directed to take special steps to increase the pregnancy rate and maintain its quality in artificial insemination centers. Also, targets should be set for the embryo transplant program.
The Additional Chief Secretary said that breed-wise targets should be set to increase productivity in animals. He said that hybrid model can be adopted to ensure participation of farmers in the programs being run by the government to protect indigenous breeds, so that the income of farmers also increases and indigenous breeds can also be protected. He said that result-based programs should also be conducted to protect indigenous breeds. He also talked about encouraging more and more farmers to take advantage of NLM Entrepreneurship Development Program.
During the meeting, it was told that there are currently 1804 artificial insemination centers in the state. It was told that Badri cow conservation and promotion programs are being conducted in 6 districts of the state (Almora, Bageshwar, Chamoli, Pauri, Tehri and Uttarkashi). Along with this, training programs are also being conducted, which include Maitri, AI Refresher, Pashu Sakhi, Goat Farming, and A Help Program.
