Dehradun: After the implementation of Uniform Civil Code in Uttarakhand, registration of marriage has become mandatory. Since then, an average of 1634 marriages are being registered per day under the UCC Act. Whereas, earlier the average of marriage registrations in the 2010 Act was only 67 per day.
Before the implementation of Uniform Civil Code in Uttarakhand, marriages were registered under the Uttarakhand Marriage Registration Act- 2010. But then very few people used to get marriage registered, under this Act implemented from 2010, a total of 3,30,064 marriage registrations took place till 26 January 2025, in this way, according to the old Act, the average number of marriage registrations per day could reach only 67. But now after the implementation of Uniform Civil Code in Uttarakhand from 27 January 2025, there has been a tremendous jump in marriage registration.
Due to solid law and easy process, people are now showing great enthusiasm for marriage registration. The situation is that from January 27, 2025 till now, the number of marriage registrations under UCC has reached 3,01,526. In this way, the average of marriage registrations per day after UCC is 1634. Which is many times more than the previous law. Here, the government has increased the current time limit for getting marriage registration done under UCC from six months to one year.
A notification has been issued by the Department of Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs in this regard. This will facilitate those people who due to some reason could not get marriage registration done under UCC till now. The number of registrations under the Uniform Civil Code is increasing day by day. This shows the comprehensiveness and significance of the law. Every registration done under the Uniform Civil Code is a solid step towards a strong society. This is especially protecting the interests of women.
It is worth noting that after the implementation of Uniform Civil Code law in Uttarakhand, marriage registration has been made mandatory. In view of the problems of the public, the state government has extended its time limit from six months to one year. After which the process of marriage registration is continuing. The Dhami government has implemented the Uniform Civil Code law in the state from 27 January 2025. After which marriage registration under the Uniform Civil Code is gaining momentum in the state.
