The Chief Minister said, we had promised the people of the state to bring Uniform Civil Code in Uttarakhand before the 2022 assembly elections. The people of the state gave us a chance to form the government again by giving their blessings to fulfill this objective. We decided to constitute an expert committee for Uniform Civil Code in the first cabinet and constituted a five-member committee under the leadership of retired Supreme Court judge Ranjana Prakash Desai on 27 May 2022. The committee received about 2.33 lakh suggestions through various means. The committee analyzed them in record time and submitted its detailed report to the government on February 2, 2024. Uniform Civil Code will be helpful in eliminating discrimination against various sections of the society, especially mothers-sisters and daughters. Now the time has come to stop atrocities against women. Discrimination against our mothers-sisters-daughters should be ended. Our Matri Shakti should be given complete justice by giving equal status to half of our population in true sense.
