Delhi: UIDAI, the Aadhaar issuing body, has amended some rules regarding Aadhaar enrollment and correction. This change may affect users who are making or updating Aadhaar cards. This rule has been notified under the Third Amendment Regulations, 2025.
Under the new rules, the documents that can be used as proof of identity, address, relationship, or date of birth have been updated. UIDAI has made these changes for all age groups, including children, youth, and senior citizens. If you are planning to update or make your Aadhaar card, learn about these documents.
Documents for Name Change
UIDAI has approved several forms of identification for name correction, with passports being the most reliable document. It records your photo, name, date of birth, and address simultaneously. Additionally, PAN card, voter ID (EPIC), driving license, government identity card, and marriage certificate can also be used to update your name.
Required Documents for Address
UIDAI has approved several documents for address proof. These include passport, bank passbook/bank statement (updated), electricity, water, and gas bills (issued within three months). Renters can provide a rent agreement, along with house or property tax receipts, ID cards, and ration cards.
Documents for Date of Birth
Citizens currently need to provide several documents to update their date of birth, including a birth certificate, passport, or 10th or 12th grade marksheets. A physical PAN card can also be submitted. E-PAN is not considered eligible.
What has changed now?
According to the new rules introduced by UIDAI, a single document containing a photo, name, and address will now be sufficient for Aadhaar updates. Previously, separate proofs were required, but now a single document can complete the process. Changes such as name changes, address changes, date of birth updates, or adding relationships can all be done with a single document.
