Dehradun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has announced a recommendation for a CBI investigation into the UKSSSC (Uttarakhand Subordinate Selection Commission) paper leak case. Following CM Dhami’s assurance, unemployed youth, who had been on strike for eight days, have suspended their protest. Despite this, the main opposition party, Congress, appears unsatisfied. Congress has maintained its planned march to the Chief Minister’s residence on October 3 over the paper leak issue.
Congress has called for a full-throated march to the Chief Minister’s residence on October 3. The Congress, which plays the role of the opposition in Uttarakhand, claims that the Chief Minister visited the protesting youth’s protest on Monday and recommended a CBI investigation into the graduate-level paper leak case. However, uncertainty remains over the CBI’s investigation into the paper leak. Because Trivendra Singh Rawat, the former Chief Minister of the Bharatiya Janata Party, had announced in the Assembly that the NH-74 scam would be investigated by the CBI.
According to the Congress, the then Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat had said that the CBI would take over the investigation of the NH-74 scam within 15 days. However, even after eight years, the CBI has not yet taken over the investigation.
Uttarakhand Congress State Vice President Suryakant Dhasmana said that from day one, the Congress has been demanding a CBI investigation into the UKSSSC recruitment exam paper leak under the supervision of a sitting High Court judge. He also demanded that the exam, which was leaked during the recruitment exam, be canceled and a new exam date be announced.
He stated that the UKSSSC Chairman has no right to remain in office after the paper leak. Therefore, the Chairman of the Commission should either resign or the government should dismiss him. But during these eight days, the state government and the entire BJP together labeled the protesting youth as urban Naxals, with BJP leaders accusing them of insulting the saffron flag. Furthermore, the Chief Minister went to extremes and labeled the entire movement as copycat jihadis.
During this period, the anti-BJP atmosphere within the state and the Congress’s call for a siege of the Chief Minister’s residence over the paper leak issue, the Chief Minister, out of fear, ultimately had to yield to the demands of the unemployed youth.
The Congress party claims that the BJP is in power at the center, and if the Chief Minister had wanted, the CBI could have taken over the investigation within 24 hours on the orders of the central government. However, the SIT is still investigating the matter. The Chief Minister merely announced the CBI recommendation to the unemployed on paper, and suspended the protest. However, the Congress party remains apprehensive about when the central government will act on this recommendation. Addressing these issues, the Congress party has decided to march to the Chief Minister’s residence on October 3rd.
