Dehradun: 51 teachers have secured jobs in the Education Department using fake disability certificates. The Education Department has issued notices to these teachers, summoning them to submit their disability certificates within 15 days. The notice stated that unilateral action would be taken against them if they did not appear.
In the recruitment of teachers and employees in the Education Department over various years, ineligible individuals were also recruited under the disability quota. The matter came to light when a public interest litigation was filed in the High Court by the National Federation of the Blind.
Based on this litigation, the State Medical Board examined the disability certificates of some teachers in 2022. These certificates were found to be fraudulent. Following this, the Education Department was directed to take action against these teachers, but no action has been taken to date.
On November 22, 2025, the Court Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities heard the matter. The list of such teachers submitted in the public interest litigation was provided to the Education Department and the Education Department was directed to take action. Following the Court Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities’ directive, the Education Department issued notices to these teachers. The teachers issued notices include a headmaster from Uttarkashi district and 14 lecturers from Dehradun, Pauri, and Tehri. In addition, there are 37 assistant teachers (LTs).
A list of these teachers has been received from the Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities. In light of natural justice, notices have been issued to the teachers. Further action will be taken upon receipt of their response.
