Major Amendment to the UCC
Since the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code in Uttarakhand, the marriage registration process has been in full swing. Uttarakhand also shares close ties with Nepal, Bhutan, and Tibet. Consequently, citizens of these countries living in Uttarakhand are unable to register their marriages under the UCC because they lack Aadhaar cards. Consequently, the Uttarakhand government has decided to amend the Uniform Civil Code regulations, waiving the Aadhaar card requirement for Nepalese, Bhutanese, and Tibetan citizens, while also validating other documents. The Cabinet has approved the amendment to the UCC regulations.
