Uttarakhand: For the effective and successful implementation of Swachhata Hi Seva Abhiyan, the Chief Secretary gave instructions for public participation, awareness and advocacy

Dehradun: For the effective and successful implementation of Swachhata Hi Seva Abhiyan, Chief Secretary Smt Radha Raturi has directed the officers to run a large scale cleanliness campaign in public and commercial places, offices, institutions, roads, highways, markets, trekking and camping places and other tourist and religious places across the state with public participation, awareness, advocacy, as well as set up single window camps for health checkup and social security coverage for Safai Mitras. She has also instructed to ensure the participation of self-help groups and NGOs in the campaign.

To solve the problem of debris on Chardham routes, CS Smt. Radha Raturi has instructed to identify appropriate places for dumping zones on Chardham route. Along with this, the Chief Secretary has instructed the Secretary Drinking Water and District Magistrates to ensure inspection  of all STPs. She also instructed all DMs to ensure a solid system of connecting all STPs to the drainage system.

Instructing to work sensitively on the issue of social security and insurance of Safai Mitras, CS Smt. Radha Raturi directed the District Magistrates to increase their access to social security by organizing single window camps on a large scale for Safai Mitras during the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign and link them with welfare schemes. She has directed the Health Department to organize health camps for Safai Mitras and provide them information about health and medical services, tests and treatment as well as welfare schemes of all other related departments.

Describing the Green Leaf rating of all hotels and homestays in the state as very important from the point of view of cleanliness and environmental conservation, the Chief Secretary has directed the Tourism Department to take immediate action in this regard. She has directed to ensure strict adherence to the standards of cleanliness in the case of cloud kitchens.

In order to make the system of mandatory installation of garbage bags in all vehicles in the state effective, Chief Secretary Smt Radha Raturi has directed the Transport and Police Department as well as the Uttarakhand Pollution Control Board to actively conduct checking campaigns.

It is known that Swachhata Hi Seva Abhiyan 2024, a nationwide cleanliness initiative of the Government of India, will be conducted from 17 September to 2 October.

This year, under the theme of Swachhata Hi Seva Abhiyan “Swabhaav Swachhata-Sanskar Swachhata”, emphasis is being laid on promoting cleanliness as a part of behavior.

The campaign includes three major components: public participation, achieving cleanliness, and recognition of Safai Mitras, sanitation workers and other stakeholders who have been an integral part of the program for the last decade.

This fortnight-long campaign will have extensive participation of the district administration and the state government, which will develop a collaborative and coordinated approach towards cleanliness across the state.

Secretary Shri Shailesh Bagauli, Additional Secretary Shri Nitin Bhadauria along with officials from Urban Development, Drinking Water, Tourism departments and all district magistrates were present in the meeting virtually .
