Dehradun: Mining is a major source of revenue in Uttarakhand. This is the reason why the Uttarakhand government is giving special emphasis on mining. So that the revenue of the state can be increased further. Meanwhile, the Revenue Department has once again come into the discussions. This time the discussions are related to the collection of revenue by the Mining Department. Actually, in the current financial year 2024-25, the Mining Department has broken the old record of collecting revenue. Because the government has got revenue of Rs 686 crore from the Mining Department in just 9 months. Whereas in the last financial year, revenue of Rs 646 crore was received.
On the instructions of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, continuous meetings are being held under the chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary (Finance) and Secretary Finance to maintain financial discipline in the state. In the meetings, emphasis has been laid on increasing the revenue of the revenue earning departments. The effect of which is that the revenue of the Mining Department is continuously increasing. A total revenue of Rs 397 crore was received from mining in the financial year 2020-21. Along with this, a revenue of Rs 570 crore was received in the financial year 2021-22, Rs 472 crore in the financial year 2022-23, Rs 645 crore in the financial year 2023-24. At the same time, in the current financial year 2024-25, a revenue of Rs 686 crore has been received till December 29.
While there are still three months left in the current financial year. In such a situation, it is expected that more than one thousand crore rupees revenue can be obtained from the mining department in this entire financial year. The main reason for this is that the Finance and Mining Department has changed the strategy for revenue increase and has given the monitoring work to externally aided agencies. Whereas earlier the monitoring of mining operations was done by the Mining Department itself.
Apart from this, the state’s own tax revenue is also increasing year by year. In the financial year 2019-20, the state got a revenue of about Rs 11,513 crore from state tax. Similarly, in the financial year 2023-24, the revenue of state tax increased to Rs 19,245 crore. In such a situation, in the current financial year, about Rs 22,500 crore revenue is expected to be collected from its own tax.
