Uttarakhand: Heliports ready at eight places in the state, Dhami said – pilgrimage and tourism activities will increase

Dehradun: To facilitate access to remote areas in the geographically challenging state, the government is providing strong infrastructure for air services in the state. In this sequence, heliports have been completed at eight places in the state in the last two years. While the construction of heliports is in progress at six other places.

Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority (UKADA) has prepared heliports in Sahasradhara, Srinagar, Gauchar, Chinyalisaur, Haldwani, Almora, Pithoragarh and Munsyari in the last two years, which are now providing their regular services to the passengers. After this, UCADA has started work on heliports in Trijuginarayan, Joshimath, Mussoorie, Ramnagar, Bageshwar, Haridwar. A target has been set to complete the work in all these places in the next one year. According to UCADA’s Additional Chief Executive Officer Dayanand Saraswati, more than 100 helipads have been constructed in the state which are available for any passenger service or operation in emergency situation. In this way, basic facilities for air connectivity to far flung areas are now available in the state.

Expansion of Jolly Grant and Pantnagar Airport

The state government is expanding Pantnagar and Jolly Grant Airport. For this, land acquisition process is being done. Pantnagar Airport is being developed on the lines of Green Field Airport while Jolly Grant is being developed as per international standards.

What is a Heliport

Along with parking of many helicopters at the same time, maintenance (hangar) facility, basic facilities like resting place, canteen, toilets are available for the passengers. Heliport is constructed on the lines of airport.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream is that the common man of the country can also travel by air. For this, air services are being developed in Uttarakhand through the Udan Yojana as well as the Chief Minister’s Udan Khatola Yojana. Its benefits will also be seen in the form of increased pilgrimage and tourism activities.
