Uttarakhand High Court gets another new judge, Law Ministry appoints advocate Alok Mehra as judge

Nainital: After the approval of the President, the Union Ministry of Justice and Law has appointed advocate Alok Mehra as a judge of the Uttarakhand High Court. The High Court Bar Association has expressed happiness and congratulated him on being appointed as the judge of the Uttarakhand High Court. The country’s Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal informed about the appointment of Alok Mehra as the judge of the Uttarakhand High Court through a post from his X account late on Wednesday evening.

Let us tell you that the Supreme Court Collegium had recommended the appointment of Alok Mehra as the judge of the Uttarakhand High Court in October 2023. The matter was pending for 15 months. Today, on February 12, after the approval of President Draupadi Murmu, orders have been issued to appoint him as a judge.

Newly appointed Judge Alok Mehra has been practicing in the High Court since the inception of the Uttarakhand High Court. He is an expert in constitutional matters including civil and revenue. Born in Nainital in February 1972, Alok Mehra’s father late Gopal Singh Mehra has been a well-known advocate. He has been a lawyer for about 63 years in Nainital District Court and has been a founding member of Uttarakhand Bar Council. His mother Dhana Devi is retired from the post of Principal of Government Girls Inter College Dharchula. His grandfather late Dharam Singh Mehra has held an important post in Nainital Revenue Department.

According to the information, the newly appointed judge Alok Mehra has studied up to high school from St. Joseph College, Nainital and intermediate from Government Inter College Nainital. While he did his graduation and post graduation from MBPG College Haldwani. He studied law from Campus Law Center, Delhi University in 1998. He was registered in the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh in 1999. Alok Mehra started his advocacy from Nainital District Court.
