Dehradun: The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the dates for the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 on Saturday while stating that the voting to elect the representatives to the lower house of the Parliament will take place in six phases. The voting will commence on April 19 and the results will be announced on June 4.
As announced by the ECI, Uttarakhand will vote on April 19 to elect representatives for five Lok Sabha seats, including Nainital-Udhamsingh Nagar, Almora, Tehri Garhwal, Haridwar and Garhwal. 83,21,207 eligible voters of Uttarakhand will exercise their voting rights on the same day, electing representatives for the 18th Lok Sabha.
The 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Uttarakhand are expected to witness a contest between BJP and Congress. In the last Lok Sabha elections in 2019, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won all five seats of Uttarakhand, securing a clear majority in the 17th Lok Sabha.
Following the announcement of the election dates, the Model Code of Conduct has been implemented across the state. Uttarakhand Chief Electoral Officer Dr BVRC Purushottam said that apart from the Voter ID card, 12 other documents can be used for voting in the elections.
These documents include the Aadhaar card, Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) job card, bank or post office passbooks with a photograph, health insurance cards from the Labor Ministry, driving licenses, PAN cards, smart cards from RGI under NPR, Indian passports, pension documents with photographs, government-issued service identity cards, official identity cards from MPs, MLAs, and MLCs and special disabled photo identity cards from the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
