Dehradun: Uttarakhand chief electoral officer BVRC Purushottam convened a meeting with district magistrates and superintendents of police from all districts in the secretariat on Sunday via video conferencing, gearing up for the Lok Sabha elections.
Purushottam outlined detailed guidelines for ensuring secure polling across all districts. Emphasising the significance of the forthcoming elections, particularly in the initial phase, he stressed the need for expansive awareness programmes, including sweep activities at the grassroots level.
The chief electoral officer underscored the necessity of heightened surveillance at checkpoints, particularly in districts bordering other states and countries.
Purushottam urged all agencies involved in the Election Seizure Management System (ESMS) to meticulously fill out seizure and intercept reports to avoid discrepancies.
Addressing the meeting on Sunday, state nodal officer Manmohan Mainali highlighted significant seizures of cash, illegal liquor, and narcotics amounting to over Rs 7 crore from March 1 to March 16, with the largest quantity seized being narcotics. Additional director general of police A P Anshuman disclosed deployment plan across all districts and stressed the importance of improving communication systems, especially in remote areas.
