Dehradun: On the instructions of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, mock drill was conducted on Monday in five districts of the state which are most affected by floods and waterlogging. With the aim of better dealing with various disasters occurring during the monsoon period, conducting relief and rescue operations in a smooth and effective manner, strengthening coordination between various line departments, this mock drill was organized at 23 places in Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital, Dehradun and Champawat districts. Secretary Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Vinod Kumar Suman said that the mock drill was practiced seriously in all the districts with very good coordination. Due to the promptness and complete participation of the officers of various line departments at the district level, the real time mock drill was successfully conducted. He said that the objective of the mock drill was to strengthen coordination between various departments and to make the best use of various resources and equipment during a disaster. To a large extent, success has been achieved in achieving this objective. He said that some shortcomings were seen, which will be removed so that floods and other disasters occurring during the monsoon period can be dealt with effectively. He said that the objective of this drill was to identify such gaps, so that there is no hindrance in the conduct of relief and rescue operations at the time of an actual disaster.
