Dehradun: The ongoing demographic change in Uttarakhand is becoming a major problem. Consequently, the state government is taking strict measures to address this demographic change. While verification drives are underway across the state to address the demographic change, ration card holders are also being investigated. Furthermore, the government has announced a review of permanent residence certificates issued in the last three years and the verification of voter IDs of people living in the border areas of Uttar Pradesh.
Following the emergence of fake documents and illegal settlements in Uttarakhand, the state government is taking various steps to address the demographic change in the state. This initiative began with the implementation of strict land laws. Additionally, the Kalnemi campaign was launched in the state. Furthermore, the Uttarakhand government is implementing the Devbhoomi Parivar Yojana to curb demographic change. This was approved during a recent cabinet meeting. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has repeatedly made statements regarding demographic change. He stated that the original nature of Uttarakhand will not be allowed to change.
Demographic change remains a major challenge in Uttarakhand. The population pressure of outsiders in the state’s urban areas is continuously increasing, affecting the state’s cultural identity, social structure, and resources. Numerous cases have surfaced in the state, including the creation of fake documents to obtain ration cards and Aadhaar cards, and the misuse of government schemes. This is why the state government is taking various administrative actions to prevent demographic change, primarily investigating fraudulent documents through verification campaigns.
There are widespread reports of document errors and inclusion of ineligible individuals in the eligibility category. Consequently, ration cards, electricity connections, Aadhaar cards, and identity cards have been issued incorrectly. In such a situation, all of them will be subject to scrutiny, which has been strictly enforced.
Pushkar Singh Dhami, Chief Minister
CM Dhami stated that there are complaints that people living in areas bordering Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh have voter IDs issued from two different locations. The verification process will also be carried out in the state. These areas include Udham Singh Nagar, Champawat, Nainital, Haridwar, Dehradun, and Pauri.
CM Dhami stated that the large-scale changes observed in the state’s demographics are not good for Uttarakhand. The administration will work vigorously to curb this. Investigations will also be initiated against those who have contributed to the inclusion of ineligible individuals in the eligible category, and work will proceed on that basis.
